Thanks to the great work being done across the region, marketing professionals recognize Cleveland as the hub for content. In launching CLE Content, our mission is to shine a spotlight on the vast amount of editorial and marketing expertise across Northeast Ohio and become a resource for companies everywhere to tell their unique stories.
CLE Content was launched by Jason Freed, who has been writing clean and concise content for more than 20 years, starting with the school newspaper at Columbiana High School. From there, he studied communications and journalism at Mercyhurst College and Kent State University.
With several stops at Northeast Ohio newspapers over a seven-year span, Jason was a sports reporter, beat reporter, copy editor and page designer. As newspapers were dying, he landed a gig at a trade magazine covering the hospitality industry, called Hotel & Motel Management. He published his first piece on hotel technology in November 2007.
Next, as an editor of Hotel News Now for five years, Jason was fortunate to develop more skills and invaluable relationships across hospitality. A couple of the smartest and most forward-thinking guys he met in the industry had founded Duetto, a hotel technology startup, and after working together a few times they brought Jason on board to help build their content marketing program.
Marketing played a critical role in Duetto's rapid growth to more than 3,000 customers in seven years, and in 2018 the company received an $80-million investment from a private equity firm. Over five years at Duetto, Jason learned an incredible amount about marketing -- from product marketing to demand generation to sales enablement to media relations -- but the most intriguing piece was creating content that became the central framework for successful integrated marketing campaigns. Duetto's team grew a newsletter subscriber base from 151 to more than 10,000 opt-in industry leaders, and by the end of his tenure Duetto's marketing team was generating millions of dollars in Stage 2 pipeline.
Duetto was early to the game. Today, as the price of digital advertising rises and consumers yearn for a more genuine buying experience, more companies are turning to content marketing as an effective way to reach prospects. Fortunately, as the discipline evolves, there are more integrated, efficient and cost-effective approaches to developing and executing a content marketing strategy.
